telent exceeds target and raises over £60,000 for the NSPCC

telent, the technology services company, last year raised over £62,500 for its chosen corporate charity, the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children).

To reach this total, telent staff were significantly involved in numerous fund raisings activities including; sports challenges such as the London Marathon and the charity’s national Big Bike Ride, collections at offices and London Underground stations, raffles, auctions and through the company’s salary donation scheme.

telent’s customers, suppliers and partners have also helped through supporting the company’s fifth annual charity golf day, which alone raised over £54,000, operating a mobile phone recycling scheme and general donations.

“This is such a fantastic achievement!” said Mark Plato, Chief Executive Officer at telent. “The current economic climate doesn’t really lend itself to supporting fund raising activities to this scale.

“We have been extremely fortunate with the generosity of our colleagues, customers, suppliers and partners who have all dug deep to make sure we not only meet our annual commitment to the NSPCC but also exceed it by thousands of pounds. The achievement makes me immensely proud and I would like to personally thank all those who have been involved for helping to put an end to child cruelty.”

Andrew Flanagan, Chief Executive of the NSPCC, said: “I want to say a huge thank you to Mark Plato and everyone at telent for raising over £60,000 for the NSPCC in 2009. The NSPCC relies on the continued support of companies like telent, and local communities, to help end cruelty to children. I look forward to working with telent for many years to come.”

In July 2009, telent celebrated ten superb years of fundraising for the NSPCC during which time the company raised over £390,000.00 for the charity.

With annual revenues of over £350 million, telent has decades of experience in supplying a broad range of network and communications services in the UK and Germany. Today, the privately-held company employs over 2,500 people and has one of the largest engineering field forces in the UK. Customers include: Airwave, BT, Deutsche Bahn, EADS, Merseyside Fire & Rescue, the Metropolitan Police, National Express, Network Rail, Stagecoach, Tube Lines, and the UK Highways Agency.

The NSPCC is the UK’s leading children charity specialising in child protection and the prevention of cruelty to children. The NSPCC’s purpose is to end cruelty to children FULL STOP. The NSPCC runs projects and services across the United Kingdom and Channel Islands, including ChildLine, the UK’s free, confidential 24-hour helpline for children and young people. The NSPCC helps over 10,000 children and their families every year.
