Peeriot Joins the Rust Foundation as a Silver Member

The Leipzig-based deep-tech company supports the sustainable development of the Rust ecosystem and contributes its expertise in edge and embedded infrastructure

Peeriot GmbH has joined the Rust Foundation as a Silver Member. Through this membership, the Leipzig-based deep-tech company supports the work of the independent nonprofit organization dedicated to the Rust Project and the global Rust community.

Rust is a central technological foundation for Peeriot’s development work. The company develops infrastructure software for distributed edge and embedded systems, which often run unattended on hardware that is difficult to access. In such environments, memory safety, predictable concurrency, and long-term maintainability are just as important as fine-grained control over memory, resources, and execution.

‘Edge infrastructure has to be secure – it runs in places no one is watching, on hardware that is hard to reach. Rust gives us exactly the right foundations for that: memory safety and reliability built into the language itself, underneath systems that have to keep running unattended for years. That is why we build on it, and why we are glad that, through our membership in the Rust Foundation, we can give a little back and play our small part in the continued success of an ecosystem that so much critical software increasingly depends on.’

Ralf Hüskes, Co-Founder and CEO of Peeriot

Long-Term Commitment to the Rust Ecosystem

Peeriot views membership as a long-term commitment to the language, tools, and community upon which its own system development is built. As a Silver Member, the company supports the Rust Foundation’s mission while bringing its perspective on edge computing, embedded systems, WebAssembly, and distributed infrastructure software to the broader Rust ecosystem.

This membership underscores a fundamental technical approach at Peeriot: Open infrastructure for long-lived, distributed systems depends on foundations that are themselves open, auditable, and sustainably maintained.

Rust in Peeriot’s Development Work

A key development project at Peeriot is Myrmic, an open-source application runtime for stateful edge software on Linux-based systems and supported microcontrollers. The project is currently under development and will be announced separately.

Myrmic follows a simple architectural principle: the application model leads; the infrastructure follows. Portable application logic is developed in Rust and executed as WebAssembly; hardware-facing processing remains in native Rust. Membership in the Rust Foundation reflects Peeriot’s long-term commitment to the ecosystem that underpins this work.

‘Peeriot’s membership reflects the growing role Rust plays in edge and embedded systems. We’re proud to welcome them to our community and benefit from their perspective on the secure, resilient networks that billions of connected devices will depend on.’

Dr. Rebecca Rumbul, Executive Director & CEO, Rust Foundation

Peeriot is a deep-tech company founded in 2022 and headquartered in Leipzig, Germany. The company develops open infrastructure for the software-defined physical world. With Myrmic, Peeriot is building an open application runtime for stateful applications across heterogeneous edge and embedded environments; EdgeVance provides a separate enterprise governance layer for production operations in regulated environments.

Peeriot has completed two funding rounds and is backed by TGFS, bm|t, and Companisto, among others. In 2026, the company was recognized with a Startup Award at embedded world.

The Rust Foundation is an independent nonprofit dedicated to the safety, security, sustainability, and health of the Rust Programming language and the people who use it. Through close partnerships with organizations passionate about Rust and the growing Rust Project and community, the Rust Foundation is helping forge a better open source future with Rust.
